                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending Gene-Gabriel Moore and the Not Merely Players; 
  1- 2  and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Gene-Gabriel Moore, a native of Atlanta's 
  1- 4  Cabbagetown who has been an actor, newspaperman, public 
  1- 5  television interviewer, and magazine editor, has founded a 
  1- 6  theater company named the Not Merely Players; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, the theater company is intended to have a broad, 
  1- 8  international, and unique scope, including as performers 
  1- 9  anyone with talent, especially persons with disabilities; 
  1-10  and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, as an actor whose voice was altered by surgery to 
  1-12  remove a tumor from his inner ear, and as a man who was 
  1-13  warned by doctors that he would never work again, 
  1-14  Gene-Gabriel Moore knows that the burdens of disabilities 
  1-15  sometimes weigh on a creative spirit; and 
 
  1-16  WHEREAS, as the creative director of Not Merely Players, he 
  1-17  has seen a girl with Down Syndrome dancing on the stage, and 
  1-18  has seen her reaction to applause; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, the world needs more talented performers, and 
  1-20  talented persons with disabilities need a chance to perform; 
  1-21  and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, the Not Merely Players, a nonprofit organization, 
  1-23  staged its first production, "A Cabbagetown Christmas", 
  1-24  written by  Gene-Gabriel Moore, in December, 1998. 
 
  1-25  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-26  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend 
  1-27  Gene-Gabriel Moore and the Not Merely Players for reminding 
  1-28  us that disabilities may conceal talent, and for bringing 
  1-29  that talent to the stage for all to see. 
 
  1-30  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-31  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-32  appropriate copy of this resolution to Gene-Gabriel Moore 
  1-33  and the Not Merely Players.
