                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Honoring Mrs. Jo Lynn Parsons; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 2  WHEREAS, Jo Lynn Parsons is a devoted and successful 
  1- 3  teacher, wife, mother, and grandmother whose generosity and 
  1- 4  compassion have transformed the lives of many; and 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, she was born Jo Lynn Figgatt on October 31, 1948, 
  1- 6  in Charleston, West Virginia, the beloved daughter of Worthy 
  1- 7  and Neoma Figgatt; and 
 
  1- 8  WHEREAS, she is a 1966 graduate of Dunbar High School where 
  1- 9  she was an active member of the Thespians, the College Club, 
  1-10  the French Club, and the Pep Club; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from West Virginia 
  1-12  State College in 1970 where she had been vice president of 
  1-13  the Student National Education Association and the Alpha 
  1-14  Kappa Mu Leadership Society, treasurer of the Kappa Delta 
  1-15  Pi-Honor Society in Education, and a member of Phi Alpha 
  1-16  Theta, the National History Honor Society; and 
 
  1-17  WHEREAS, upon graduation from college, she began her 
  1-18  outstanding career as an elementary and middle school 
  1-19  teacher; and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, her talent and genuine love of teaching earned for 
  1-21  her the respect of her students, their parents, and her 
  1-22  colleagues, and in recognition of her superlative 
  1-23  achievements she was named Teacher of the Year at Blackwell 
  1-24  Elementary School for 1988-1989; and 
 
  1-25  WHEREAS, for 12 years, she willingly sacrificed an enormous 
  1-26  amount of her personal time to serve as director of the 
  1-27  After School Program at Blackwell Elementary School, the 
  1-28  duties of which she performed with characteristic 
  1-29  excellence; and 
 
  1-30  WHEREAS, she is the loving mother of two daughters, Jennifer 
  1-31  Elizabeth Parsons and Meredith Victoria Parsons Whittington, 
  1-32  and the proud grandmother of Ethan Wesley Whittington; and 
 
  1-33  WHEREAS, despite the demands of her profession, she always 
  1-34  managed to be an active participant in the many interests of 
  1-35  her daughters during their school years, including the Girl

  2- 1  Scouts, the PTA, sports activities, and service as a "Band 
  2- 2  Parent"; and 
 
  2- 3  WHEREAS, our esteemed colleague, Representative Don Parsons, 
  2- 4  enjoys the distinct honor and privilege of being her 
  2- 5  husband. 
 
  2- 6  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  2- 7  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and 
  2- 8  honor Mrs. Jo Lynn Parsons as an outstanding citizen of the 
  2- 9  State of Georgia and express their appreciation for her 
  2-10  significant contributions to quality education in this 
  2-11  state. 
 
  2-12  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2-13  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
