                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending Georgia's dental hygienists; recognizing Dental 
  1- 2  Hygienists' Appreciation Day on February 4, 2000; and 
  1- 3  inviting certain dental hygienists to appear before the 
  1- 4  House of Representatives; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, dental hygienists have been promoting oral health 
  1- 6  and preventing oral disease in Georgia for 59 years as 
  1- 7  licensed oral healthcare professionals, and the first 
  1- 8  officers of the Georgia Dental Hygienists' Association were 
  1- 9  installed in 1927; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, there are approximately 4500 registered dental 
  1-11  hygienists practicing in Georgia and 154 of the 159 counties 
  1-12  in Georgia have licensed hygienists; and 
 
  1-13  WHEREAS, dental hygienists are specialists whose expert care 
  1-14  contributes to the oral health of Georgians through 
  1-15  preventative checkups, cleanings, and education; and 
 
  1-16  WHEREAS, many dental hygienists volunteer their time to 
  1-17  serve the elderly, disabled, and indigent through such 
  1-18  groups as the Georgia Oral Health Coalition, Healthy 
  1-19  Mothers/Healthy Babies, and the Coalition of Advocates for 
  1-20  Georgia's Elderly; and 
 
  1-21  WHEREAS, dental hygienists are essential healthcare 
  1-22  professionals in dental offices, public health facilities, 
  1-23  and public and private schools, and their participation in 
  1-24  public policy discussions on oral healthcare in Georgia is 
  1-25  valued. 
 
  1-26  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-27  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize 
  1-28  February 4, 2000, as Dental Hygienists' Appreciation Day and 
  1-29  invite certain dental hygienists to appear before the House 
  1-30  of Representatives at a time to be determined by the 
  1-31  Speaker. 
 
  1-32  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-33  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-34  appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Dental 
  1-35  Hygienists' Association.
