                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Part 2 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the 
  1- 2  Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to 
  1- 3  compentencies and core curriculum in elementary and 
  1- 4  secondary schools, so as to provide for the presentation of 
  1- 5  certain scientific evidence whenever any theory of the 
  1- 6  origin of humans or other living things is taught; to 
  1- 7  provide for legislative intent; to repeal conflicting laws; 
  1- 8  and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 9       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1-10                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-11  Part 2 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official 
  1-12  Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to compentencies and 
  1-13  core curriculum in elementary and secondary schools, is 
  1-14  amended by adding at the end thereof a new Code section, to 
  1-15  be designated as Code Section 20-2-146, to read as follows: 
 
  1-16    "20-2-146. 
 
  1-17    (a) Whenever any theory of the origin of humans or other 
  1-18    living things is included in a course of study offered by 
  1-19    a local unit of administration, both scientific evidence 
  1-20    supporting or consistent with the theory and scientific 
  1-21    evidence problematic for, inconsistent with, or not 
  1-22    supporting the theory shall be included. 
 
  1-23    (b) The method of instruction described in subsection (a) 
  1-24    of this Code section is intended to strengthen the 
  1-25    analytical skills of students by requiring the 
  1-26    presentation of a broad range of scientific evidence 
  1-27    regarding theories of the origin of humans and other 
  1-28    living things." 
 
  1-29                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-30  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 
  1-31  repealed.
