                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Chapter 30 of Title 43 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to optometrists, so as to change 
  1- 3  the provisions regarding scope of practice and providing 
  1- 4  samples; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 5       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 6                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 7  Chapter 30 of Title 43 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1- 8  Annotated, relating to optometrists, is amended by adding at 
  1- 9  the end of paragraph (2) of Code Section 43-30-1, relating 
  1-10  to definitions, new subparagraphs to read as follows: 
 
  1-11        "(I) Therapeutically licensed optometrists shall have 
  1-12        the authority to prescribe and administer all oral and 
  1-13        topical pharmaceutical agents rational to the 
  1-14        diagnosis, management, or treatment of diseases and 
  1-15        conditions of the eye and adnexa oculi except those 
  1-16        listed in Schedules I and II of Article 2 of Chapter 
  1-17        13 of Title 16, the 'Georgia Controlled Substances 
  1-18        Act.' 
 
  1-19        (J) Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to 
  1-20        prohibit a doctor of optometry from providing 
  1-21        pharmaceutical samples to patients." 
 
  1-22                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-23  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
