SENATE BILL 32

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Part 2 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the
1- 2 Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to competencies
1- 3 and core curriculum, so as to authorize implementation of a
1- 4 Scholastic Assessment Test preparatory course for certain
1- 5 public schools; to provide for elective credit for such
1- 6 course; to provide that the contents of such course may be
1- 7 prescribed by each local board of education; to repeal
1- 8 conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1- 9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1-10 SECTION 1.
1-11 Part 2 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official
1-12 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to competencies and core
1-13 curriculum, is amended by adding at the end thereof a new
1-14 Code Section 20-2-146 to read as follows:
1-15 "20-2-146.
1-16 (a) All schools with grade ten or above may make available
1-17 to eligible students a Scholastic Assessment Test
1-18 preparatory course. Such course of study shall be
1-19 designed to offer an opportunity for review and practice
1-20 to students preparing to take the Scholastic Assessment
1-21 Test. The course may be offered periodically in the
1-22 manner prescribed by the local board.
1-23 (b) Each local board of education shall be authorized to
1-24 supplement and develop the exact approach of content areas
1-25 of such Scholastic Assessment Test preparatory course with
1-26 such specific curriculum standards as it may deem
1-27 appropriate.
1-28 (c) For the purposes of earning Carnegie unit curriculum
1-29 credits at the high school level, completion of the
1-30 Scholastic Assessment Test preparatory course may be
1-31 accepted by the State Board of Education for one-half unit
1-32 of elective credit."

2- 2 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2- 3 repealed.
