SENATE BILL 509

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To provide for the nonpartisan nomination and election of
1- 2 the judge of the Probate Court of McIntosh County; to
1- 3 provide for terms of office; to repeal conflicting laws; and
1- 4 for other purposes.
1- 5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1- 6 SECTION 1.
1- 7 At the state-wide primary and November general election
1- 8 conducted in 2000 and every four years thereafter, the judge
1- 9 of the Probate Court of McIntosh County shall be nominated
1-10 and elected by the qualified voters of McIntosh County in a
1-11 nonpartisan primary and election. Persons elected to such
1-12 office shall take office the first day of January
1-13 immediately following such election and shall serve for a
1-14 term of office of four years and until the election and
1-15 qualification of their respective successors. The
1-16 procedures for such nonpartisan primary and election shall
1-17 be as provided in Code Section 21-2-139 of the O.C.G.A.
1-18 Except as otherwise provided in this Act, the primary and
1-19 election shall be governed by Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the
1-20 O.C.G.A., the "Georgia Election Code."
1-21 SECTION 2.
1-22 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
1-23 repealed.
