1- 6 perpetrated by the Young Turk government of the Ottoman
1- 7 Empire from 1915 to 1923; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, the Armenian genocide and massacres of Armenian
1- 9 people have been recognized as an attempt to eliminate all
1-10 traces of a thriving and noble civilization over 3,000 years
1-11 old; and
1-12 WHEREAS, the denial of the Armenian genocide by the
1-13 present-day Turkish government continues to antagonize the
1-14 Armenian people concerning their own rightful place in
1-15 history; and
1-16 WHEREAS, by consistently remembering and openly condemning
1-17 the atrocities committed against the Armenians, Georgians
1-18 are highly sensitive to the need for constant vigilance to
1-19 prevent similar atrocities in the future; and
1-20 WHEREAS, recognition of the eighty-fourth anniversary of
1-21 this genocide is crucial to guarding against the repetition

1-23 atrocities connected to these horrific events; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Georgia is home to over 500 Armenian families; and
1-25 WHEREAS, Armenian-Americans living in Georgia have greatly
