A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing and commending Mrs. Bonnie Manning; and for
1- 2 other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Mrs. Bonnie Manning from Wrens, Georgia, is a
1- 4 teacher at Curtis Baptist Elementary School in Augusta,
1- 5 Georgia; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, on December 2, 1998, while walking through the
1- 7 lunch room, Mrs. Manning noticed that a fourth grade
1- 8 student, Ashley Memory, was choking, and when Ashley was
1- 9 unable to respond to questions, Mrs. Manning applied the
1-10 Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the particle of food that was
1-11 clogging Ashley's esophagus and threatening her life; and
1-12 WHEREAS, because of Mrs. Manning's cool assessment of a
1-13 life-threatening situation and her immediate application of
1-14 her training, a precious little girl is alive today and is
1-15 brightly facing a future that otherwise might not have been.
1-16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
1-17 members of this body recognize and commend Mrs. Bonnie
1-18 Manning for her actions of December 2, 1998, which saved the
1-19 life of young Ashley Memory.
1-20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
1-21 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
1-22 this resolution to Mrs. Bonnie Manning.
