A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Congratulating Ms. Deborah N. Hargroves; and for other
1- 2 purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Ms. Deborah N. Hargroves, a media specialist at
1- 4 Hesse Elementary School in Savannah, is one of four
1- 5 outstanding educators from Georgia to receive the 1998
1- 6 Milken Family Foundation Educator Award; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, a total of 160 outstanding educators around the
1- 8 country were selected this year to receive this prestigious
1- 9 honor, which includes an unrestricted financial award of
1-10 $25,000.00, and recipients join a national network of
1-11 outstanding teachers and administrators dedicated to
1-12 elevating their profession and affecting the policies that
1-13 shape their classroom and schools; and
1-14 WHEREAS, criteria for selection include exceptional
1-15 educational talent and promise and distinguished achievement
1-16 in developing innovative educational curricula, programs,
1-17 and teaching methods; and
1-18 WHEREAS, in June of 1998, Ms. Hargroves, along with other
1-19 recipients and their families, were guests of the Milken
1-20 Family Foundation in Los Angeles for the annual Milken
1-21 Family Foundation National Education Conference, where, for
1-22 three days, they had an opportunity to share ideas and
1-23 concerns regarding education with other distinguished
1-24 educators, state school chiefs, and leaders of government
1-25 and business.
1-26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
1-27 members of this body congratulate Ms. Deborah N. Hargroves
1-28 for her many accomplishments and for receiving the 1998
1-29 Milken Family Foundation Educator Award.
1-30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
1-31 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
1-32 this resolution to Ms. Deborah N. Hargroves.
