                             A RESOLUTION

  1- 1 Commending NationsBank/BankAmerica on their generous
1- 2 charitable giving; and for other purposes.

1- 3 WHEREAS, NationsBank having merged with BankAmerica provides
1- 4 more money in charitable contributions than any other bank
1- 5 in the United States. In 1999, the merged company will make
1- 6 charitable contributions of approximately $100 million
  1- 7 nationwide; and

  1- 8 WHEREAS, BankAmerica Foundation announced a $40 million
1- 9 grant to United Way of America to continue the foundation's
1-10 support of Success By 6 throughout the bank's franchise.
1-11 Coupled with a $10 million grant announced last year, the
1-12 foundation's support of this initiative comes to $50
1-13 million, the largest commitment the foundation has ever made
1-14 and one of the largest corporate grants in history; and

1-15 WHEREAS, this investment in early childhood development will
1-16 ensure a brighter future for children, families, and the
  1-17 nation; and

1-18 WHEREAS, this grant will provide funding for local United
1-19 Ways throughout the company's franchise, including 21 states
1-20 and the District of Columbia, to develop or enhance Success
1-21 By 6 initiatives. Currently, more than 300 local United
1-22 Ways are engaged in the Success By 6 model across the
  1-23 country; and

1-24 WHEREAS, by improving the development of our nation's
1-25 children through Success By 6, a high priority is placed on
1-26 meeting the needs of children when they are very young; and

1-27 WHEREAS, this is a phenomenal example of how corporate
1-28 America partners with local communities to make a positive
1-29 impact. BankAmerica is doing more than donating dollars.
1-30 They are investing in the communities where they do business
1-31 and, more importantly, they are investing in the children
1-32 and families of those communities; and

1-33 WHEREAS, BankAmerica is one of the top three corporate
1-34 contributors to the United Way. Last year, combined
1-35 associate and corporate pledges totaled more than $33

                                 -1-

2- 1 million, which benefits local United Ways in the bank's
  2- 2 franchise.

2- 3 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
2- 4 members of this body commend NationsBank/BankAmerica for
2- 5 their commitment to the development of our children and
2- 6 their generosity to the communities they serve in Georgia.

2- 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
2- 8 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
2- 9 this resolution to the president of NationsBank/BankAmerica.
