A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Dr. Roland Steven Summers; and for other
1- 2 purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Dr. Roland Steven Summers, physician, teacher, and
1- 4 civic leader, has been a highly respected doctor of internal
1- 5 medicine in the State of Georgia for 25 years; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, his most recent honor is his election to serve as
1- 7 President of the Medical Association of Georgia, an
1- 8 organization with a membership of over 8,000 physicians; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Summers, who practices medicine in Savannah,
1-10 has served in many leadership roles in the Medical
1-11 Association of Georgia and in the Georgia Medical Society,
1-12 including terms as President of the Georgia Medical Society
1-13 in 1987, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia
1-14 Medical Society in 1992, Secretary of the Medical
1-15 Association of Georgia from 1990 to 1996, Chairman of the
1-16 Council on Education of the Medical Association of Georgia
1-17 from 1989 to 1990, and Chairman of the Committee on
1-18 Scientific Assembly from 1986 to 1990; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Dr. Summers' superlative medical expertise and
1-20 outstanding leadership have brought acclaim to Georgia
1-21 through his participation in national medical affairs as an
1-22 alternate delegate to the American Medical Association from
1-23 1996 to 1998; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Dr. Summers and his wife Sylvia have raised five
1-25 remarkable children during their marriage of 30 years and
1-26 are active members of St. John's Episcopal Church in
1-27 Savannah.
1-28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
1-29 members of this body recognize and commend Dr. Roland Steven
1-30 Summers for his outstanding service to the medical
1-31 profession and dedication to improving and enhancing the
1-32 health of the citizens of this state and extend to him their
1-33 best wishes for his continued success.
1-34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
1-35 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
1-36 this resolution to Dr. Roland Steven Summers.
