A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commemorating the Keep Georgia Beautiful Program and its 55
1- 2 local affiliates who serve 73 percent of the population of
1- 3 the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful, a program of the Georgia
1- 5 Department of Community Affairs, was founded in 1978 as the
1- 6 first state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc.; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful builds and sustains
1- 8 community environmental activities and behaviors for a more
1- 9 beautiful Georgia; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful and its 55 local Keep
1-11 America Beautiful affiliates enhance the quality of life in
1-12 Georgia by focusing on litter prevention, recycling,
1-13 reducing the impact of waste, beautification, improving
1-14 public places, and neighborhood revitalization; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful and local Keep America
1-16 Beautiful affiliates conduct educational and community
1-17 improvement activities and programs that change behaviors
1-18 and attitudes toward the environment; and
1-19 WHEREAS, the success enjoyed by Keep Georgia Beautiful and
1-20 its local programs is built upon strong partnerships with
1-21 government, private businesses, schools, and
1-22 citizen-volunteers; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful and its programs empower
1-24 local people to take responsibility for preserving and
1-25 protecting Georgia's natural resources and environment.
1-26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
1-27 members of this body commemorate the Keep Georgia Beautiful
1-28 Program, its 55 local affiliates whose 370,000 volunteers
1-29 amassed 2 million volunteer man hours and donated $27.4
1-30 million in benefits to Georgia communities last year.
1-31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
1-32 authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of
1-33 this resolution to the public and the press.
