                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Paying tribute to Elmore Callaway Thrash; and for other 
  1- 2  purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Elmore Callaway Thrash will long be remembered by 
  1- 4  the members of the Georgia General Assembly who knew this 
  1- 5  distinguished gentleman as the Messenger of the House of 
  1- 6  Representatives for the past 43 years; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, he was born November 11, 1914, graduated from the 
  1- 8  University of Georgia in 1936, and served as a Captain in 
  1- 9  the Army during World War II before spending most of his 
  1-10  life in the real estate business in Valdosta, Georgia; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, his father and grandfather had both served in the 
  1-12  Georgia House of Representatives, and his association with 
  1-13  the legislature began in 1927, when he served as a Personal 
  1-14  Page for Richard B. Russell, then Speaker of the House; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, since 1955, "Mr. Elmo" has provided exceptional 
  1-16  service to ten Speakers of the House and observed 
  1-17  governmental administration and politics under 15 Georgia 
  1-18  Governors; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, his long experience and remarkable knowledge of 
  1-20  Georgia state government were surpassed only by his genteel 
  1-21  manner, courteous conduct, and devotion to duty; and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, the contributions and commitment of this dedicated 
  1-23  public servant to the legislative process and to the 
  1-24  citizens of this state earned him the highest respect and 
  1-25  admiration of his many colleagues and friends. 
 
  1-26  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the 
  1-27  members of this body pay tribute to Elmore Callaway Thrash 
  1-28  for his exemplary public service and convey their sincerest 
  1-29  sympathy to the members of his family. 
 
  1-30  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  1-31  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 
  1-32  this resolution to the family of Elmore Callaway Thrash.
