A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing and celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of
1- 2 the City of Bloomingdale; and for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, the Town of Bloomingdale was settled in 1840 as a
1- 4 development around the Central Georgia Railroad; and
1- 5 WHEREAS, it was given the name of "Bloomingdale" by railroad
1- 6 engineers traveling through the area because of the
1- 7 abundance of wildflowers growing along the tracks; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, the primary sources of income for the town's
1- 9 inhabitants were from dairies, farming, and turpentine and
1-10 in later years, local farmers would truck their produce into
1-11 Savannah to sell; and
1-12 WHEREAS, on Monday, March 25, 1974, Governor Jimmy Carter
1-13 signed the charter declaring the City of Bloomingdale,
1-14 Chatham County, Georgia, officially incorporated; and
1-15 WHEREAS, the City of Bloomingdale has only had two mayors
1-16 since its incorporation in 1974; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Mayor W.E. Taylor served from the city's
1-18 incorporation until June 30, 1986, and current Mayor William
1-19 C. Strozier took office on July 1, 1986; and
1-20 WHEREAS, the city's current Mayor Pro Tempore Ronald L.
1-21 Waller has served on the city council since incorporation in
1-22 1974; and
1-23 WHEREAS, the residents of Bloomingdale are united by their
1-24 love for a beautiful, peaceful, city and by their sense of
1-25 shared history which inspires their hopes for the future;
1-26 and
1-27 WHEREAS, this body urges all Georgians to join with the
1-28 citizens of Bloomingdale in celebrating this great city's
1-29 proud heritage.
1-30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
1-31 members of this body recognize the City of Bloomingdale on
1-32 the wonderful occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of
1-33 the date of its incorporation and share in the spirit of
1-34 celebration and community on this special day.

2- 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
2- 2 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
2- 3 this resolution to the Honorable William C. Strozier, Mayor
2- 4 of the City of Bloomingdale.
