A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Dorsett Shoals Elementary School; and for other
1- 2 purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Dorsett Shoals Elementary School in Douglasville,
1- 4 Georgia, is the state winner of the 1998-99 International
1- 5 Reading Association Exemplary Reading Program Award; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, the Exemplary Reading Program is sponsored by the
1- 7 International Reading Association to recognize outstanding
1- 8 reading and language arts programs at all grade levels; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, its purpose is to focus the public's attention on
1-10 outstanding reading programs in schools throughout North
1-11 America; and
1-12 WHEREAS, the faculty and administration of Dorsett Shoals
1-13 Elementary School, under the excellent leadership of
1-14 Principal Lois Landy, are wholly committed to working
1-15 together to provide a high quality reading and language arts
1-16 program which enhances student learning; and
1-17 WHEREAS, they have been highly successful in their efforts;
1-18 and
1-19 WHEREAS, the Exemplary Reading Program Award will be
1-20 presented to Dorsett Shoals Elementary School on May 2,
1-21 1999, at the Council Awards Celebration during the IRA
1-22 annual convention in San Diego, California; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Dorsett Shoals will also be recognized on March 26,
1-24 1999, at the Georgia Council of the International Reading
1-25 Association Conference in Atlanta, Georgia; and
1-26 WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that the excellence
1-27 and success of Dorsett Shoals Elementary School be
1-28 recognized by this body and upheld as an example for other
1-29 schools to emulate.
1-30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
1-31 members of this body commend and congratulate the teachers,
1-32 administrators, and students of Dorsett Shoals Elementary
1-33 School on having the best reading program in the State of
1-34 Georgia and extend best wishes for continued educational
1-35 success.

2- 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
2- 2 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
2- 3 this resolution to Principal Lois Landy.
