                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Designating a portion of State Highway 72 as the "Robert L. 
  1- 2  Williford Memorial Highway"; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Robert L. Williford assumed the important 
  1- 4  responsibility of organizing and chairing the Highway 72 
  1- 5  Steering Committee in Elbert County; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, his wisdom, foresight, and dogged determination to 
  1- 7  see this area grow and prosper paved the way for the 
  1- 8  development of this necessary regional transportation 
  1- 9  corridor; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, Robert L. Williford showed strong and respected 
  1-11  leadership and a great love for his community in all he did, 
  1-12  and his long commitment to the careful and balanced 
  1-13  development of Lake Richard Russell leaves a wonderful 
  1-14  legacy for the people of northeast Georgia; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, given his many contributions, it is only fitting 
  1-16  and proper that Robert L. Williford be honored by so naming 
  1-17  the portion of State Highway 72 that runs through Elbert 
  1-18  County. 
 
  1-19  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF 
  1-20  GEORGIA that the portion of State Highway 72 which runs 
  1-21  through Elbert County starting at the eastern city limits of 
  1-22  Elberton and traveling east to the Georgia state line at the 
  1-23  Savannah River is designated as the "Robert L. Williford 
  1-24  Memorial Highway" in honor of the many contributions made by 
  1-25  Mr. Williford to that area of our great state. 
 
  1-26  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation 
  1-27  is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate 
  1-28  signs so designating the highway. 
 
  1-29  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate  is 
  1-30  authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of 
  1-31  this resolution to the family of Robert L. Williford and to 
  1-32  the Department of Transportation.
