A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending C. Phillip Smelley; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, C. Phillip Smelley worked as a sales manager and
1- 3 sales/marketing representative for a major national
1- 4 insurance company for over six years; and
1- 5 WHEREAS, he purchased Tri-City Insurance, a 30 year old
1- 6 insurance agency, where he continues his work with owners of
1- 7 small businesses; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, he is the past-president of the Atlanta South
1- 9 Association of Life Underwriters and serves the Georgia
1-10 State Association of Life Underwriters as President-elect
1-11 and will assume the position of President in June, 1999; and
1-12 WHEREAS, he is also the legislative contact and Georgia
1-13 spokesperson for the Association of Health Insurance Agents
1-14 which is based in Washington, D.C.; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Smelley's success in business is largely due to
1-16 honest, straightforward manner, positive attitude, and
1-17 unwavering commitment to the task at hand; and
1-18 WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding achievements, he
1-19 has received a National Sales Achievement Award and a
1-20 National Quality Award from the N.A.L.U.; and
1-21 WHEREAS, his exceptional abilities are strengthened and
1-22 supported by his intensity, dependability, and commitment to
1-23 excellence in all of his professional endeavors; and
1-24 WHEREAS, he was educated at Georgia State University and
1-25 American College; and
1-26 WHEREAS, he is a devoted husband to his wife Bonnie and a
1-27 loving father to his children Megan Smelley, Courtney Coan,
1-28 and Jayson Coan.
1-29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body
1-30 honors and commends C. Phillip Smelley for an outstanding
1-31 career of service and achievement and extends to him best
1-32 wishes for continued success and prosperity.

2- 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
2- 2 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
2- 3 this resolution to C. Phillip Smelley.
