SENATE RESOLUTION 41

A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Designating the Herman H. Watson Memorial Bridge; and for
1- 2 other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Herman H. Watson is an important figure in the
1- 4 history of Paulding County, Georgia; and
1- 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Watson played an instrumental role in paving
1- 6 the roads of Paulding County when the county was completely
1- 7 dust and mud; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, in the 1930's, as a member of the State Highway
1- 9 Board, he used a state-wide farm-to-market plan already in
1-10 progress to hard surface the network of roads leading in
1-11 every direction out of Dallas, Georgia; and
1-12 WHEREAS, although he and his wife Lucille, a teacher, had no
1-13 children, they were extremely supportive of the Paulding
1-14 County school system; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Watson was one of the dedicated members of the
1-16 board of trustees for the school in Dallas who borrowed
1-17 money on his personal note to support the school until taxes
1-18 were collected; and
1-19 WHEREAS, such devotion to public duty as displayed by Herman
1-20 H. Watson is a rare and commendable attribute; and
1-21 WHEREAS, he served as a member of the Georgia House of
1-22 Representatives in 1933 and 1935.
1-23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
1-24 GEORGIA that the bridge located over Pumpkin Vine Creek west
1-25 of the City of Dallas on U.S. 278 in Paulding County is
1-26 designated the Herman H. Watson Memorial Bridge.
1-27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation
1-28 is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate
1-29 signs at appropriate locations designating such bridge.
