      SENATE RESOLUTION 42

                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Designating the Foster Family Bridge; and for other 
  1- 2  purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, the Foster family has left an indelible imprint 
  1- 4  upon the City of Dallas in Paulding County, Georgia; and 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, their members have included doctors, lawyers, 
  1- 6  public officials, teachers, and business owners; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, T. J. Foster, his son, W. A. Foster, Sr., and 
  1- 8  grandson, W. A. "Bud" Foster, Jr., all served as mayor of 
  1- 9  the City of Dallas; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, W. A. Foster, Sr., was an entrepreneur who helped 
  1-11  found the Dallas Hosiery Mill and was on the board of the 
  1-12  city's first civic organization, the Dallas Chamber of 
  1-13  commerce in 1911; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, W. A. "Bud" Foster, Jr., was the youngest mayor in 
  1-15  Georgia at the time of his election and also served as 
  1-16  judge, and later, judge emeritus of the Tallapoosa Judicial 
  1-17  Circuit; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, W. A. "Bud" Foster, Jr., wrote Paulding County: 
  1-19  Its People and Places, an informative and entertaining 
  1-20  history of his beloved home county; and 
 
  1-21  WHEREAS, Irma Foster Matthews, sister of W. A. Foster, Sr., 
  1-22  was an educator and the first female superintendent of 
  1-23  schools in Paulding County; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, Ira Eberhart Foster, Mrs. W. A. Foster, Jr., was a 
  1-25  home extension agent in Dallas and taught school, retiring 
  1-26  as librarian of Paulding County High School; and 
 
  1-27  WHEREAS, W. A. "Bud" Foster III has served as district 
  1-28  attorney of the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit, and presently 
  1-29  presides as judge of the superior court of the same circuit; 
  1-30  and 
 
  1-31  WHEREAS, the Foster family has been active in making and 
  1-32  preserving history in Paulding County through public 
  1-33  service, civic involvement, and religious activity,

  2- 1  particularly through their support of the First Baptist 
  2- 2  Church of Dallas; and 
 
  2- 3  WHEREAS, the Foster family has served their county and 
  2- 4  fellow citizens well. 
 
  2- 5  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF 
  2- 6  GEORGIA that the bridge over the Norfolk-Southern railway on 
  2- 7  Ga. 61 in the City of Dallas is designated the Foster Family 
  2- 8  Bridge. 
 
  2- 9  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation 
  2-10  is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate 
  2-11  signs at appropriate locations designating said bridge as 
  2-12  provided in this resolution. 
 
  2-13  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  2-14  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
