1- 2 Day"; and for other purposes.

1- 3 WHEREAS, Effingham County, located just 20 miles northwest

1- 9 smaller communities, such as Meldrim, Faulkville, Pineora,

1-11 its character to the Austrian and German settlers who

1-13 industrious and hard-working people who gave Georgia its
1-14 first orphanage, first school, first grist mill, first saw
1-15 mill, and first rice mill, as well as producing the state's
1-16 first governor, Austrian-born John Adam Treutlen; and

1-17 WHEREAS, while the county has grown in population, much of
1-18 the beauty those early settlers enjoyed can still be seen,
1-19 and the county offers residents and visitors a quiet and
1-20 relaxed way of life with many recreational activities; and

1-21 WHEREAS, the citizens of Effingham County are justly proud
1-22 of their community, its past, and its many contributions to
1-23 the state, and it is only proper to recognize Tuesday,
1-24 January 26, 1999, and "Effingham County Day."

1-25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
