                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending the firefighters of Georgia and observing the 
  1- 2  28th annual Firefighters' Recognition Day; and for other 
  1- 3  purposes. 
 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, in the State of Georgia, there are over 30,000 
  1- 5  firefighters who provide the very critical service of fire 
  1- 6  fighting in the 900 local fire departments; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, the goals of each and every one of these members of 
  1- 8  the fire service specifically include fire prevention, life 
  1- 9  safety, and fire suppression; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, the firefighters of Georgia have dedicated 
  1-11  themselves to the protection of life and property from the 
  1-12  beginning of their training at the Georgia Fire Academy 
  1-13  through their cooperation with the state fire marshal in the 
  1-14  investigation of fires and their causes; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, the firefighters of Georgia have continuously 
  1-16  supported efforts to elevate the standards and training of 
  1-17  firefighters and have been instrumental in increasing the 
  1-18  public's awareness of methods of fire prevention and 
  1-19  suppression; and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, February 1, 2000, is Firefighters' Recognition Day, 
  1-21  and it is fitting and proper that the firefighters of 
  1-22  Georgia be recognized for their outstanding and courageous 
  1-23  service to the people of this state. 
 
  1-24  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that each and 
  1-25  every firefighter in this state is commended for his or her 
  1-26  outstanding service to the people of this state and that 
  1-27  Firefighters' Recognition Day is being observed in honor of 
  1-28  the firefighters of Georgia. 
 
  1-29  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  1-30  authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of 
  1-31  this resolution to Chief Jimmy Hartley, President of the 
  1-32  Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, and to Chief Norris 
  1-33  Bennett, President of the Georgia State Firefighter's
