                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing the efforts of Rotary Clubs of Georgia to 
  1- 2  promote world peace and understanding through their Georgia 
  1- 3  Rotary Student Program; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, the Georgia Rotary Student Program founded by 
  1- 5  William A. Watt of Thomasville began with the class of 
  1- 6  1946-1947; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, three young men and one young woman from war torn 
  1- 8  Europe formed the first class in 1946-1947.  Each Rotarian 
  1- 9  paid in $1.00 and $4,000.00 was used to fund these four 
  1-10  students in Georgia colleges for one year; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, the Georgia Rotary Student Program was founded in 
  1-12  Georgia and remains unique to the State of Georgia.  It 
  1-13  continues to be fully funded by the sponsoring Rotary Clubs 
  1-14  of Georgia; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, a total of 2,423 young people have been brought to 
  1-16  the State of Georgia to experience our way of life and a 
  1-17  year at one of our institutions of higher learning; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, these young people have returned to their native 
  1-19  countries as our ambassadors with better understanding of 
  1-20  who we are and what we stand for; and 
 
  1-21  WHEREAS, individual Rotarian families open their homes to 
  1-22  these students giving them the experience of family life. 
  1-23  Each club stays in constant touch with the student to ensure 
  1-24  that their stay is happy, exciting, and fruitful; and 
 
  1-25  WHEREAS, students have been drawn from 93 countries in all 
  1-26  continents of the world, including some where our national 
  1-27  relations with that country are troubled; and 
 
  1-28  WHEREAS, the Georgia Rotary Student Program Foundation is 
  1-29  fully funded and continues to grow, thus ensuring the future 
  1-30  of the program and its success. 
 
  1-31  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the 
  1-32  members of this body recognize the fine work of Georgia 
  1-33  Rotary Clubs and designate them as "Official Ambassadors of 
  1-34  Goodwill," from the State of Georgia to all of the world.

  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  2- 2  authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of
