                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Proclaiming the Great American Meatout Day; and for other 
  1- 2  purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, a wholesome plant based diet of whole grains, 
  1- 4  vegetables, and fresh fruits reduces the risk of heart 
  1- 5  disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and other chronic and 
  1- 6  infectious diseases that cripple and kill nearly 1.5 million 
  1- 7  Americans annually; and 
 
  1- 8  WHEREAS, such a diet helps preserve topsoil, water, energy, 
  1- 9  and other food production resources that are essential to 
  1-10  human survival; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, such a diet helps preserve our forests, grasslands, 
  1-12  and other wildlife habitats and reduces pollution of our 
  1-13  waterways by soil particles, debris, manure, and pesticides; 
  1-14  and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, such a diet helps prevent the suffering and death 
  1-16  of over nine billion sentient animals each year in the 
  1-17  United States; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, for the past 14 years, many dedicated Great 
  1-19  American Meatout volunteers have encouraged neighbors to 
  1-20  explore such a diet. 
 
  1-21  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the 
  1-22  members of this body proclaim March 20, 2000, the Great 
  1-23  American Meatout Day and encourage our citizens to explore a 
  1-24  wholesome diet of whole grains, vegetables, and fresh 
  1-25  fruits. 
 
  1-26  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  1-27  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 
  1-28  this resolution to the Black Vegetarian Society of Georgia.
