Senator Bill Hamrick is a lifelong Carroll Countian. He attended Carrollton High
School where he displayed growing leadership potential as co-captain of Charlie
Grisham's 1982 football team. Senator Hamrick subsequently graduated from Auburn
University and received his law degree from the Georgia State University School of
Law.
Hamrick has worked in the legislative and executive branches of government, on the
Governor's Task Force for Drug Suppression, and as an intern prosecuting criminal
cases in the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office. He currently has a law
practice in Carrollton.
Senator Hamrick is a former 7th District Congressional Liaison with the Carroll
County Republican Party. He was the Republican nominee for State Representative
in House District 101 in 1998.
The Hamrick family is filled with public servants who have served Georgia. Senator
Hamrick's father, William Hamrick, was Carroll County District Attorney, and his
mother, Dottie is a former teacher. His uncle, Robbie Hamrick, served as Director of
the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for one of the longest terms in the history of
Georgia.
Active in community affairs, Senator Hamrick has served on the Carroll County
Chamber of Commerce Leadership Committee, is a graduate of Leadership Carroll
County, and is a member of the Long Range Planning Committee at his church. He
also teaches Sunday School and is a member of a local service club.
Senator Hamrick was elected to the Senate in a special election held on March 7,
2000 to fill an unexpired term. He serves as a member of the Senate Health and
Human Services, Higher Education, Special Judiciary, and Transportation
Committees.
