SENATOR CAROL JACKSON
Senator Carol Jackson, a Democrat from Cleveland, was elected to the state Senate from
Georgia's 50th District in 1998.
Lieutenant Governor Taylor has appointed Senator Jackson to serve as vice chair of the
Corrections, Correctional Institutions and Property Committee and as secretary of the
Agriculture Committee.
She is a member of the Appropriations; Veterans and Consumer Affairs; and Ethics
Committees.
Senator Jackson came to the General Assembly after serving 14 years as Superior Court
Clerk in White County. She served as president of the Superior Court Clerks Association of
Georgia. Mrs. Jackson was chosen in the 9th district to receive the "Stetson S. Bennett Clerk
of the Year" award.
Statewide, she was named the "Outstanding County Officer of the Year" by the County
Officers Association of Georgia in 1994 and "Superior Court Clerk of the Year" in 1997.
Senator Jackson was born and reared in White County attending public schools and
graduating magna cum laude from Truett McConnell College. She later attended North
Georgia College majoring in business administration.
Senator Jackson was married to the late Glen Jackson, and they have two children and three
grandchildren. She owns a trucking company in Cleveland.
She is a member of Mt. Yonah Baptist Church and active in community and civic affairs. She
is a member of the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce and has served on numerous
boards including the Northeast Georgia Police Academy Board and the American Red Cross
Board. She served on the Supreme Court Gender Bias Commission, Supreme Court
Commission on Equality in the Courts and National Association of Court Managers to name a few.
The 50th Senatorial District includes Dawson, Habersham, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens,
Towns, Union and White Counties.
