A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Code Section 20-2-142 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to prescribed courses of instruction, so as to provide that all elementary and secondary schools shall provide instruction in black history; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Code Section 20-2-142 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to prescribed courses of instruction, is amended by striking in its entirety paragraph (1) of subsection (a) and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
"(a)(1) All elementary and secondary schools which receive in any manner funds from the state shall provide the following course offerings in the manner prescribed by the State Board of Education:
(A) A course of study in the background, history, and development of the federal and state governments. The course in the study of federal and state governments shall be supplemented in each high school by a study of the local county and municipal governments; and
(B) A course of study in the history of the United States and in the history of Georgia and in the essentials of the United States and Georgia Constitutions, including the study of American institutions and ideals; and
(C) A course of study in black history in the United States."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
