A BILL TO BE
ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Code Section 40-5-32 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to expiration and renewal of motor vehicle
drivers´
licenses and required examinations, so as to provide for renewal by certain
residents living out of state; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
Code Section 40-5-32 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to expiration and renewal of motor vehicle
drivers´
licenses and required examinations, is amended by adding a new subsection (c) to
read as follows:
"(c)(1) Any resident of this state
living out of state as a:
(A) Member of the armed
forces of the United States on active duty;
(B)
Full-time student enrolled in an out-of-state postsecondary educational
institution;
(C) Member of the Peace Corps;
or
(D) Dependent of a person described in any of the
foregoing subparagraphs of this paragraph
may apply for
a renewal of his or her
driver´s
license by mail. Subject to the provisions of this subsection, such a renewal
license shall be issued without requiring the applicant to be photographed or
fingerprinted.
(2) Any person submitting an
application for
driver´s
license renewal pursuant to this subsection shall provide the department
with:
(A) All information on the face of the current
Georgia
driver´s
license for which renewal is sought or a legible photocopy of the face of such
license;
(B) Acceptable proof that the applicant
successfully passed an eyesight examination within the six-month period
immediately preceding application for license
renewal;
(C) Acceptable proof of eligibility for
license renewal under paragraph (1) of this subsection;
and
(D) Payment of the applicable issuance
fee."
SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
repealed.
