A BILL TO BE
ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Chapter 1A of Title 20 of the Official Code of
Georgia, relating to the Office of School Readiness, so as to provide that the
pre-kindergarten program administered by the Office of School Readiness shall be
known as
"Georgia´s
Pre-K Program"; to require that printed materials created on and after July 1,
2002, for the pre-kindergarten program shall refer to the program as
"Georgia´s
Pre-K Program"; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws;
and for other purposes.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
Chapter 1A of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia,
relating to the Office of School Readiness, is amended by striking in its
entirety Code Section 20-1A-4, relating to the powers and duties of the office,
and inserting in lieu thereof a new Code Section 20-1A-4 to read as follows:
"20-1A-4.
The
Office of School Readiness shall have the following powers and
duties:
(1) To administer such programs and services
as may be necessary for the operation and management of voluntary
pre-kindergarten, which shall be known as
'Georgia´s
Pre-K Program';
(2) To administer such programs
and services as may be necessary for the operation and management of preschool
and child development programs, such as Even Start and child care regulation and
food programs;
(3) To act as the agent of the federal
government in conformity with this chapter and the administration of any federal
funds granted to the state to aid in the furtherance of any functions of the
office; and
(4) To assist local units of
administration in this state so as to assure the proliferation of services under
this chapter."
SECTION 2.
Said chapter is further amended by adding at the end thereof
a new Code Section 20-1A-7, to read as
follows:
"20-1A-7.
On
and after July 1, 2002, each newly printed publication, poster, banner, or sign
created for the pre-kindergarten program by the Office of School Readiness or a
provider of pre-kindergarten services shall refer to the program as
'Georgia´s
Pre-K Program.'"
SECTION 3.
This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the
Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.
SECTION 4.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
repealed.
