A RESOLUTION
Commending Jesse Crews, Jr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Jesse Crews, Jr.,
Charlton County High School Athletic Director, was named Class A Athletic
Director of the Year 1999-2000; and
WHEREAS,
he was born in 1953, son of the late Jesse A. Crews and Juanita Vinson Crews,
and graduated from Charlton County High School in 1971;
and
WHEREAS, he earned his B.S.Ed from
Georgia Southern College in 1975 and his M.Ed. from Valdosta State University in
1982; and
WHEREAS, he began his
distinguished career as a teacher and coach at St. George High School in 1975
and returned to Charlton County High School in 1981;
and
WHEREAS, as Athletic Director at
Charlton County High School since 1989, he has been an innovative and energetic
leader, starting the girls' softball program in 1990, beginning the wrestling
program, and undertaking the renovation of the football field, seating, and
lighting, and the relighting of the baseball field;
and
WHEREAS, Charlton County High School's
outstanding athletic programs have produced championship teams, including the
Charlton County Indians, who captured the Class A State Championship, and the
Maidens softball team, which advanced to the State Sectionals in 1999 for the
first time in the school's history;
and
WHEREAS, his superb skills as a coach
and athletic director have been honored many times, including recognition as the
Region 2A Basketball Coach of the Year three times, as the Region 2A Athletic
Director of the Year five times, and as Class A Athletic Director of the Year
twice; and
WHEREAS, he and his wife Joan
Canaday Crews have reared a fine family of four children: Ansley, Tye, Hayley,
and Spencer; and
WHEREAS, as an excellent
leader, he is quick to express his appreciation for support from the high
school administration, the community, the fans, the athletes, the students, and
his family; and
WHEREAS, he has served his
community with dedication as a member of the Charlton County Board of
Commissioners for three terms, beginning in
1981.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Jesse Crews,
Jr., for his outstanding contributions to his community as teacher, coach,
athletic director, and member of the local governing
authority.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to Jesse Crews,
Jr.
