A RESOLUTION
Commending the Conyers Lions Club; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, the Conyers Lions Club is
Rockdale
County´s
oldest service club, celebrating 60 years of service to Rockdale County;
and
WHEREAS, the Conyers Lions Club is a
member of Lions Clubs International, the
world´s
largest service organization with nearly two million members and clubs in 750
countries; and
WHEREAS, the Conyers Lions
Club´s
primary concern is sight and hearing conservation, supporting and operating a
Leader Dog program in which dogs are trained to help the blind, particularly
school age children, at little or no cost to the needy;
and
WHEREAS, the Conyers Lions Club uses 100
percent of funds raised to support sight and hearing projects and works to
eradicate all disease throughout the world, especially in third world countries
affiliated with the Carter Center to which it donated approximately $4,000.00 in
2000; and
WHEREAS, the Conyers Lions Club
collects old eyeglasses to have the lenses reground for use in new eyeglasses
for financially needy persons worldwide and emphasizes recruiting eyeball
donors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Conyers
Lions Club for its organized efforts and outstanding commitment to sight and
hearing conservation and express their appreciation for its important service to
the people of the State of Georgia and the
world.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk
of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to the Conyers Lions
Club.
