A RESOLUTION
Commending the Coastal Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of
America and inviting them to appear before the House of Representatives; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America
was founded in 1910, and since its founding, the organization has provided a
program of character education, leadership citizenship training, and physical
fitness to over 100 million young people;
and
WHEREAS, the Coastal Empire Council was founded
in 1923 and serves the Counties of Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Bullock, Candler,
Screven, Liberty, Long, Evans, Toombs, and Tattnall and has served over 100,000
youth, with over 1,000 scouts attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, and each year
Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorers provide over 40,000 hours of community
service through activities such as blood drives, food and clothing drives, and
building projects for churches, schools, and libraries; and
WHEREAS, the Coastal Empire Council is nationally
recognized for its collaborative community based approach to working in the
inner city, predominantly African American neighborhoods;
and
WHEREAS, it is only right and proper that the
members of this body recognize and commend the scouts and leaders of the Coastal
Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America for the fine work they are doing for
their community and the state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body
recognize and commend the Coastal Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America
for its service to the community and the state's youth and invite them to appear
before this body on a date and at a time designated by the Speaker of the House
of Representatives.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to the Coastal Empire Council of the Boy
Scouts of America.
