A RESOLUTION
Commending Cristina Herndon as a Georgia Youth Volunteer;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Cristina Herndon,
of Decatur, Georgia, was named a Distinguished Finalist among Georgia's top high
school student volunteers in the seventh annual Prudential Spirit of Community
Awards for 2002; and
WHEREAS, this prestigious
award is presented by The Prudential Insurance Company of America in partnership
with the National Association of Secondary School Principals and honors young
volunteers who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Cristina Herndon, a
senior at Dunwoody High School in DeKalb County, founded the Latin American
Student Organization to promote understanding of Latin American culture and to
foster unity among students of all ethnic backgrounds;
and
WHEREAS, the future success of Georgia and its
citizens, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American
society depend upon the dedication of young people who use their talents and
resources to serve others; and
WHEREAS, it is most
appropriate to honor the efforts and accomplishments of young people who
recognize the value and importance of volunteering in their
communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend
Cristina Herndon for her volunteer service, peer leadership, and community
spirit and extend to her best wishes for success and
happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of
the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to Cristina Herndon.
