House Resolution 136

A RESOLUTION

Commending the Jefferson High School Lady Dragons Softball Team and inviting the team and the coaches to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Jefferson High School Lady Dragons Softball Team brought fame and honor to the school, their parents, and the community as they won the title as the 2000 Class A State Champions and became the first girls team to win a state title for the school; and

WHEREAS, these terrific young athletes compiled an outstanding season record of 31 wins and 3 losses, the most softball wins of any team in all classes of girls softball in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the superb athletic ability, individual motivation, and remarkable resiliency of these young women reflect the excellent training provided by Head Coach DeMaris Gurley and his assistants, Kevin Jacobs, Bill Roberts, Melvin Porter, and Bolling DuBose; and

WHEREAS, the Senior players are Stacey Anderson, Lara Bridges, Julie Coile, Ashley Evans, and Brooklyne Marlowe; the Junior players are Staci Childress, Lee DuBose, and Melinda Floyd; the Sophomore players are Michelle Boring, Sunny Bush, Molly Cleveland, and Annie Goza; and the Freshmen players are Kenyotta Beasley and Taryn Gurley.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Jefferson High School Lady Dragons Softball Team on winning the Class A state championship title and invite the team and its coaches to appear before the House of Representatives at a time to be determined by the Speaker.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach DeMaris Gurley.
