A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the New York Shields Pipes and
Drums Band; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the
New York Shields Pipes and Drums Band is composed of members of the New York
City police force who are dedicated to community service and sharing the spirit
of their Irish ancestry; and
WHEREAS, this talented
band has served as ambassadors of traditional Irish music at performances all
over the world; and
WHEREAS, several members of the
band have been involved in recovery efforts at the World Trade Center and all of
the band members demonstrate daily acts of courage and heroism as police
officers; and
WHEREAS, as part of the festivities
of St. Patrick's Day, the band will perform for the seniors of Chatham County at
Senior Citizens, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the New York
Shields Pipes and Drums Band will march in the 2002 St. Patrick's Day parade in
Savannah directly following Grand Marshal Eddie
Fahey.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE
OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the
talented and heroic members of the New York Shields Pipes and Drums Band and
extend their best wishes for a Happy St. Patrick's Day and for the
future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of
the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to the New York Shields Pipes and Drums
Band.
