A RESOLUTION

Commending Dr. Thomas W. Cole, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas W. Cole, Jr., has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the education of the citizens of Georgia and this nation; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his many years of superlative service as president of Clark Atlanta University; and

WHEREAS, this outstanding individual serves on the boards of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce; Central Atlanta Project; Georgia Research Alliance; Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America; Atlanta Educational Telecommunications Collaborative, Inc.; Atlanta Action Forum; and Atlanta Rotary and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Nonviolent Social Change; and

WHEREAS, he has had the distinction of serving as chancellor of the West Virginia Board of Regents; president of West Virginia State College; and as a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable, committed, and distinguished educator be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Dr. Thomas W. Cole, Jr., for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his community and state and his exemplary work in education and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness as he enjoys a well-earned retirement and the satisfaction of a job well done.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Thomas W. Cole, Jr.
