A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Rachel Hubbard; and
for other purposes
WHEREAS, Rachel Hubbard,
a fourth-grade student at Fayetteville Elementary School heroically saved the
life of a school bus driver, who happened to be her own dear mother, Danette
Corcoran-Hubbard; and
WHEREAS, about 7:00
A.M. on January 16, 2001, her mother began to drive the bus route to school when
an opposing car struck a deer and sent it hurtling toward the bus where it
crashed through the window and struck the driver in the head and chest;
and
WHEREAS, this brave young student was
the sole passenger on the bus, and she quickly responded to help steer the bus
to safety by providing the eyesight for the driver who was temporarily blinded
by the broken window glass; and
WHEREAS,
Rachel's prompt action, sound judgment, and calm manner literally saved the life
of her mother by avoiding a head-on collision, and her amazing bravery and
exceptional focus throughout the emergency merit special recognition and
praise.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend
Rachel Hubbard for her heroic actions in saving the life of her mother and
convey to her their great respect for her
courage.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to Rachel
Hubbard.
