A RESOLUTION
Commending Mrs. Betty Lyons; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Betty Lyons has long been recognized
by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in
community leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the
citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, she has
diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents,
and energy toward the betterment of her state as evidenced dramatically by her
more than 35 years of superlative service as secretary and administrative
assistant in the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives and for
many members of the House of Representatives in the Legislative Office Building,
including the chairman of the House Insurance Committee and, most recently, E.M.
"Buddy" Childers, the chairman of the House Health and Ecology Committee;
and
WHEREAS, her equanimity, professionalism, and
good will serve her in good stead as she exercises her many duties, including
last-second scheduling and rescheduling arrangements, the keeping of minutes,
and the tracking of committee changes to legislation;
and
WHEREAS, her significant organizational and
leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of
vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the members of the General Assembly
have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates and
the members of this body in particular;
and
WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous
strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence,
fairness, and kindness; her loyalty, competency, reliability, and enthusiasm
have distinguished her superlative service to this state; and her friendship is
counted by everyone under the Gold Dome as a special experience they will always
treasure; and
WHEREAS, she has announced her
retirement on April 30, 2002, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the
outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately
recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mrs. Betty Lyons
for her over three and one-half decades of efficient, effective, unselfish, and
dedicated public service to the citizens of her state; convey to her their
heartiest congratulations upon the occasion of her retirement; and extend to her
their most sincere best wishes for continued health and
happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of
the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Betty Lyons.
