House Resolution
16
By: Representatives Unterman of the 84th,
Coleman of the 80th and Squires of the 78th
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Boy Scout Troop 535; inviting
members of the troop to appear before the House of Representatives; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America
have a long and distinguished history of service to their communities, of
training boys in outdoor skills and first aid, and of doing good deeds for
others; and
WHEREAS, on March 18, 2000, leaders and
members of Boy Scout Troop 535, while training for an emergency preparedness
merit badge deep in the North Georgia mountains, encountered Ms. Tannis
Blackwell who had fallen and broken her ankle;
and
WHEREAS, the leaders and members of Boy Scout
Troop 535, using their emergency preparedness skills, treated Ms.
Blackwell´s
injuries, constructed a stretcher, and carried Ms. Blackwell two miles through
the mountain trails to her vehicle so that her husband was able to drive her to
receive medical treatment; and
WHEREAS, such
actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Boy Scouts of America
and bring honor to the members of Boy Scout Troop 535;
and
WHEREAS, the scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 535
is Grady Vickery and the assistant scout masters are Jeff Evett, Randy Crane,
Ray Logsdon, and John Cooper; and
WHEREAS, the
members of Boy Scout Troop 535 are Cory Borst, Andy Vickery, Ian Vickery, Chris
Cooper, Jason Kien, Nick Logsdon, Sean Evett, and Russell
Crane.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE
OF REPRESENTATIVES that the leaders and members of Boy Scout Troop 535 are
recognized and commended for their service, dedication, courage, and efforts in
their rescue of Ms. Tannis Blackwell on March 18,
2000.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the leaders and
members of Boy Scout Troop 535 are invited to appear before the House of
Representatives at a time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of
Representatives.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
appropriate copies of this resolution to the leaders and members of Boy Scout
Troop 535.
