Brown of the 130th, Westmoreland of the 104th and Yates of

A RESOLUTION
Commending James Wendell Whitlock; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, James Wendell Whitlock has been
a faithful and dedicated servant of Coweta County for over 50 years;
and
WHEREAS, he began his employment with the
county in 1948; was appointed warden and road superintendent in 1961; and was
appointed superintendent of public works in 1978, which position he held until
his retirement in 1988; and
WHEREAS, he returned to
work for the county without compensation in 1993 to oversee construction of
soccer fields; and, upon request of the county commission, he worked as a
consultant to the public works department from 1994 to 1998;
and
WHEREAS, he is a veteran of World War II,
having enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and having served in the South Pacific
theater on board the tanker U.S.S. Tamalpais and in occupation duty in
Japan after that
nation´s
surrender; and
WHEREAS, he is a member of and has
held positions of leadership in numerous civic organizations and has received
numerous awards including the first honorary membership in the Georgia State
Patrol, second annual Department of Transportation award, and the dedicated
service award from the Georgia Prison Wardens
Association.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend
James Wendell Whitlock for his faithful public service and his contributions to
the welfare of his community and this state.
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to James Wendell
Whitlock.
