A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life of Bobby Lee Hill; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS, former state
representative and well-known civil rights activist Bobby Lee Hill died on
December 1, 2000, at the age of 59 years;
and
WHEREAS, by the magnitude of his
personality and his prodigious talent, he was able to inspire and lead his
community; and
WHEREAS, in 1968, he became
the first black person elected to the Georgia House of Representatives from
Chatham County since Reconstruction;
and
WHEREAS, he served with great
distinction as the Representative for the 127th House District in west Savannah
for 14 years; and
WHEREAS, greatly admired
for his ability as a trial lawyer and for his dazzling oratorical skill, he was
a founding member of the law firm Hill, Jones, and Farrington, which championed
civil rights issues with particular zeal;
and
WHEREAS, in 1968, he represented
plaintiffs in the landmark case that desegregated the Savannah-Chatham County
School System; and
WHEREAS, a 1963 graduate
of Savannah State University, he received a law degree from Howard University;
and
WHEREAS, most recently, he served as the
CEO of National Legal Network Group, Inc., a lawyer referral service;
and
WHEREAS, Bobby Hill was a brilliant
leader and a sincere public servant who was always willing to serve as the voice
for people who could not speak for
themselves.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body remember and
honor the life of Bobby Lee Hill for his distinguished service to the State of
Georgia and express to his family their sincere sympathy for their
loss.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk
of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Bobby Lee
Hill.
