A RESOLUTION
Expressing support of the men and women of the
Georgia Army National Guard; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, there are approximately
13,000 men and women in the Georgia Army and Air National Guard providing
dedicated service to this state and the United States;
and
WHEREAS, our
nation´s
security continues to rely on the men and women of the National Guard who
regularly augment their active duty counterparts around the world with trained,
equipped, and ready forces; and
WHEREAS,
carrying on this tradition of service, more than 1,200 men and women of the 48th
Infantry Brigade (Mechanized) of the Georgia Army National Guard will deploy to
Bosnia in March, 2001, as part of a Presidential Reserve Call-up in support of
the peacekeeping mission in Bosnia;
and
WHEREAS, Georgia has a valiant history
of military participation in both active duty and the National Guard. Georgia
National Guardsmen have taken up arms in defense of
America´s
freedoms in every major war and conflict in our
nation´s
history from the American Revolution to the Persian Gulf War;
and
WHEREAS, living and working in more than
40 communities across our state, the members of the 48th Infantry Brigade
contribute everyday to the lives of their families and neighbors, carrying on a
variety of roles within their communities in addition to their military
service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their deepest
appreciation for and support of the men and women of the Georgia Army National
Guard and urge communities, businesses, and employers to honor these courageous
Georgians who will put their personal lives on hold to defend our
nation´s
interests and the interests of the Free World in the war-torn country of
Bosnia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to Major General David Poythress, Adjutant
General for the Georgia Department of
Defense.
