A RESOLUTION
Expressing regret at the passing of Dr. James A. Kaufmann;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, James A. Kaufmann,
M.D., graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1947 and
joined the Medical Association of Georgia in 1953 where he was a member in good
standing for nearly 50 years; and
WHEREAS, founder
of the Kaufmann Clinic in the City of Atlanta, he was a prominent physician and
community leader who was held in the highest esteem by his fellow citizens;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kaufmann served his community,
state, nation, and profession with honor and distinction and received scores of
honors and accolades from professional and civic organizations, including the
Medical Association of Georgia's Distinguished Service Award, the American
Medical Association's Benjamin Rush Award for Citizenship and Community Service,
the American Society of Internal Medicine's Distinguished Internist Award, the
B'nai B'rith Distinguished Service Award, the Christian Council of Metropolitan
Atlanta's Outstanding Community Service Award, and many other coveted awards;
and
WHEREAS, IN 1987, Dr. Kaufmann received the
Humanitarian Award for the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP where he was a member of
the board for many years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kaufmann
was instrumental in establishing the Medical Association of Georgia's Medical
Aid Station in the Georgia State Capitol which has been used for more than 30
years to attend to the medical needs of members of the General Assembly, staff,
and members of the public who required medical assistance while visiting
Georgia's Capitol during legislative sessions;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kaufmann died on April 11, 2002,
leaving behind his much beloved wife Alice, daughter Nancy, son Robert, and
stepdaughter Holly, and his exemplary public service will be long
remembered.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body expresses its deep regret and profound
sadness upon the passing of Dr. James A. Kaufmann and conveys its appreciation
and gratitude for his contributions to his profession and to the citizens of the
State of Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that
the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr. James A.
Kaufmann.
