A RESOLUTION
Commending Dr. Tobe Johnson, Jr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Dr. Tobe Johnson, Jr., a
distinguished political scientist and the chairperson of the department of
political science at Morehouse College, received the Bennie Service Award this
year at the "A Candle in the Dark Gala";
and
WHEREAS, born in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr.
Johnson served in the U.S. Air Force for two years, earned a bachelor's degree
in political science from Morehouse College, and a Ph.D. in political science
from Columbia University; and
WHEREAS, for 40
years, this dignified and award-winning professor has been educating Morehouse
men on the fine points of political science theories and methods, as well as
advising local and national governmental agencies on urbanization and economic
policy; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson, the Avalon
Professor of Political Science, has directed numerous Morehouse programs,
including the African American Studies Program and the Social Science
Improvement Program, and he currently directs the Urban Studies program; and
WHEREAS, this highly respected professor
epitomizes excellence in education and has served with honor and distinction and
has provided inspiration and encouragement to countless students at Morehouse
College.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE
OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Dr. Tobe Johnson, Jr.,
on receiving the Bennie Service Award and convey to him their appreciation and
most sincere best wishes for continued success, health, and
happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of
House of Representatives is authorized to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to Dr. Tobe Johnson, Jr.
