House Resolution
20
By: Representatives Jackson of the 112th,
Harbin of the 113th, Burmeister of the 114th and Lane of
the 146th
A RESOLUTION
Commending the Georgia Recreation and Parks
Association and inviting representatives of the association to appear before the
House of Representatives; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, individual and organized
forms of recreation and the creative use of leisure time have gained
significance in the lives of Georgians as their free time for personal pursuits
has diminished; and
WHEREAS, recreation
encompasses a myriad of activities that result in personal satisfaction and
family unity; and
WHEREAS, recreation is not
confined to the young and those with great physical prowess but can be pursued
by persons of all ages and abilities in programs of arts and crafts, tourism,
cultural endeavors, and nature studies;
and
WHEREAS, recreation promotes a zestful
approach to life in general through the encouragement of a broad range of
recreation activities that do not demand special instructions or equipment;
and
WHEREAS, recreation in its most
far-reaching benefits can help combat the problems of juvenile delinquency, drug
abuse, disabling old age, and general depression by offering new avenues of
interest to individuals; and
WHEREAS, the
Georgia Recreation and Parks Association is celebrating its fifty-fifth year as
an organization committed to the development of quality recreational facilities
and programs in cities and counties throughout Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, Georgia is a recognized leader
in the field of leisure services, but sustained prominence demands citizen
participation, sound management, and adequate appropriations by all levels of
government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the
Georgia Recreation and Parks Association for its organized efforts and
outstanding commitment to public recreation services and invite representatives
of the association to appear before the House of Representatives on Monday,
February 5, 2001, at a time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of
Representatives.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that
the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Charles H. Beale, President of
the Georgia Recreation and Parks
Association.
