House Resolution 21

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Bishop S.C. Madison and inviting him to appear
before the House of Representatives; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Bishop S.C. Madison is the very
distinguished national leader of the United House of Prayer for All People, a
religious faith having an apostolic foundation which has a substantial
membership throughout the United States;
and
WHEREAS, he is a native of Greenville, South
Carolina, who was reared from childhood in the teachings of the House of Prayer
where he later served as a Deacon; became a minister at age 17 under the
direction of Bishop C.M. Grace; and was appointed at age 23 to the General
Council, the highest ecclesiastical body of the church;
and
WHEREAS, in February, 1986, during the Annual
Holy Convocation, Bishop McCollough named him as Senior Minister to act as the
chief executive officer in the event of a vacancy in the office of Bishop;
and
WHEREAS, following the passing of Bishop W.
McCollough in March of 1991, Madison assumed the vacancy and on May 24, 1991,
was elected by an overwhelming majority of the General Assembly delegates to be
the second elected Bishop of the United House of Prayer for All People where he
has been a revered spiritual leader whose compassion and faith have offered
peace, hope, and good will to countless
people.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE
OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Bishop
S.C. Madison for his dedication to the House of Prayer and its spiritual mission
and invite him to appear before the House of Representatives at a time to be
determined by the Speaker.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Bishop S.C. Madison.
