A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 75th anniversary of the City of Avondale
Estates; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the City
of Avondale Estates, Georgia, was established by an Act of the Georgia General
Assembly in 1926 and this year celebrates its 75th anniversary as an
incorporated municipality; and
WHEREAS, Avondale
Estates represents one of the earliest examples of a modern planned community in
the United States; and
WHEREAS, the importance of
Avondale Estates' distinctive Tudor style and early inception as a planned
community was recognized by placing the area representing the original
boundaries of the city on the National Register of Historic Places;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Avondale Estates has since
its inception been distinguished for the quality of life afforded its residents
by the city's farsighted commitment to maintaining open green spaces as city
parks, plazas, playgrounds, and wildlife sanctuaries;
and
WHEREAS, Avondale Estates has distinguished
itself as a municipality strongly committed to the preservation and protection
of its natural resources by its repeated designation as a Tree City U.S.A. and
by its early commitment to mandatory
recycling.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body recognizes the 75th anniversary of the
City of Avondale Estates, its historic importance as an early planned community,
and its record of exemplary contributions to the protection and preservation of
its natural resources.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that
the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
an appropriate copy of this resolution to the governing authority of the City of
Avondale Estates.
