Recognizing and commending Dr. Nelson L. Price and inviting him to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson L. Price has recently retired as pastor of Roswell Street Baptist Church after 35 years of dynamic and committed service; and

WHEREAS, this outstanding man of God has worked tirelessly throughout his life to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to improve his community, state, and nation through his ministry; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership and direction, Roswell Street Baptist Church has grown to over 9,000 members; established day care, preschool, kindergarten, and elementary education programs; established a Christian radio station and television and radio ministries; and established programs for pregnant women and unwed mothers; and

WHEREAS, his influence has been felt throughout the state, the nation, and the world through his television broadcasts, his mission activities, his sermons and speeches, and his work as chairman of the National Board of Trustees of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as president of the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention Pastor´s Conference, as a member of the Georgia Policy Council for Families and Children, and as a member of the Georgia State Task Force on Foster Child Care; and

WHEREAS, his outstanding efforts, commitment, and service have been recognized through such honors as being named one of Georgia´s 100 most influential people by Georgia Trend magazine, being named citizen of the year by the Marietta Daily Journal, being the recipient of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce´s public service award, and being the recipient of the Cobb Bar Association´s Liberty Bell Award; and

WHEREAS, his counsel and spiritual guidance have been often sought by persons near and far, young and old, rich and poor, as amply demonstrated by the fact that he speaks to an average of 100,000 students each year, he preached the inaugural messages for President Jimmy Carter and for Governor Joe Frank Harris, and he is a frequent motivational and inspirational speaker for schools, athletic teams, civic organizations, and church groups; and

WHEREAS, he is respected nationally and internationally for his eloquence and scholarship, both in the spoken word and the written word, having authored 16 books of faith and encouragement and having touched so many souls through his sermons; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize and commend this distinguished pastor, counselor, and leader for a career of incomparable service, commitment, and achievement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body congratulates and commends Dr. Nelson L. Price for his career of tireless and selfless service, for his many achievements, and for the positive impact his life and work has had on the millions of persons whom he has touched around the globe through his ministry and extends to him best wishes on his retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Dr. Nelson L. Price is invited to appear before the House of Representatives on a day and at a time designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Nelson L. Price.
