A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and achievements of David Smith; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, David Smith was the founder and publisher of The Atlanta Bulletin Newspaper; and

WHEREAS, in addition, he was a kind, gentle, and wonderful man who befriended everyone he met; and

WHEREAS, no matter what a person´s status in society, he was a bright and shining beacon of light for them; and

WHEREAS, he had dreamed of publishing a newspaper that would cross all racial, religious, and political boundaries and in 1974, despite having no formal training in journalism, David Smith founded the Community Bulletin; and

WHEREAS, for years, The Atlanta Bulletin Newspaper has provided positive, stimulating news and information regarding business, sports, religion, entertainment, and politics; and

WHEREAS, the publication´s slogan, "News You Need To Know," was taken to heart by Mr. Smith, and he worked diligently to make certain that the newspaper that he loved so dearly would reach all of his readers; and

WHEREAS, over the years, he worked closely with the local Jewish and Hispanic communities and covered the careers of many prominent politicians and civic leaders, including Maynard Jackson, Hosea Williams, Reverend Ralph D. Abernathy, Reverend Joseph Lowery, Joe Beasley, Andrew Young, Mayor Bill Campbell, Senator Paul Coverdell, Congressman Newt Gingrich, Representative Tyrone Brooks, Representative Billy McKinney, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, Representative Pam Stanley, Representative Lanette Stanley, Johndelle Johnson, and many others; and
WHEREAS, David Smith is dearly missed by his innumerable friends in all walks of life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body remember David Smith and pay tribute to the life and achievements of this great citizen of the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of the late David Smith.
