A RESOLUTION

Commending the students and faculty of North Metro Technical College who participated in the 2001 Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) Student Career Days; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in March of 2001, the North Metro Technical College Student Horticulture Team participated in the ALCA Student Career Days on the campus of Colorado State University; and

WHEREAS, the students from North Metro Tech achieved the ranking of sixth in the nation, outranking many larger schools in the competition such as the University of Tennessee, the University of Arkansas, Ohio State University, the University of Georgia, the University of Kentucky, the University of Florida, Clemson University, and Auburn University; and

WHEREAS, this competition has become one of the largest and most prestigious of its kind in the country; and

WHEREAS, the achievement of the North Metro Tech team has brought recognition not only to the school and its students but also to the entire State of Georgia and its educational system; and

WHEREAS, the team members participating in the ALCA event were Chad Carroll, Dixie Marion, Susan Morris, Jason Satterfield, Trace Gabriel, Libby Astrachan, Crystal Vincent, John Kerr, Joanne Stansell, Amanda Nesbitt, T.J. Rottenburg, Alan Dasher, Heath Martin, James Barnett, and Hollie Ellenburg; and

WHEREAS, for the second year in a row, Susan Morris placed first in the entire event and was named the top student in the entire nation, showing the quality of the environmental horticulture program at North Metro Technical College; and

WHEREAS, Rex Bishop, John Hatfield, and Carol Tims, the faculty of the environmental horticulture program at North Metro Technical College, continue to achieve a high level of recognition in the horticulture industry for conducting one of the best programs in the country.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body joins with the citizens of Georgia in congratulating and honoring the students and faculty of North Metro Technical College for their achievement at the 2001 ALCA Student Career Days.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to each student and faculty member from North Metro Technical College who participated in the 2001 ALCA event at Colorado State University.
